blast from the past

today i finally opened my inbox and saw an email from a long long long lost friend. one of the boys from perhaps the happiest and most care-free days of my life (or perhaps i am just looking down the well of memories through distorting rose-tinted lens of time). we hadn't spoken in maybe 7 years?

so although i am vigilant about keeping my blog identity-free, i think it's okay to say: hello Ban! :)

Oracles

Do you believe in fortune tellers?

What if at birth, your fortune was copied down from the great Chinese almanac of birth days and everything about everything in life (called "Tong shu" apparently), and it told a tale of great suffering, hardship, failure, and loneliness for the rest of your life, world without end, amen. Or at least, that's what you've been told all your life, because it was always kept from you and you had never read it, but its shadow had always haunted your life. And what if, it would be revealed to you one day—would you read it? Given that it has grown in mythical proportions towards something akin to the oracle of Apollo.

Admittedly, having spelled it out baldly in words, the ghosts seem like weak imaginings at best.
